About Us

About Us

Runnymede Runners is a road running club, which also participates in many cross-country events. Many members also take part in Duathlon, Triathlon and Ironman events. The club colours are Blue.

We are a friendly running club, cater for all standards of runners – fast and slow, for all distances from 5K to marathon, and for adults over the age of 18 – you are never too old or too young to start. All standards of runners are welcome.

As with most other sports, running is more fun when you participate and share experiences with others. If you want to start running to get fit or if you want to improve your running, training in a group with other like-minded people helps with motivation and enjoyment of the sport.

We train on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. For further details see training under the Club menu or click here

Runnymede Runners Events below. See our diary page for more information.

Handicap Runs:

On the last Thursday of each of the summer months, the Club organises a handicap race, which takes place from Savill Gardens’ car park. According to their handicap time, the slowest start first and the fastest start last. A trophy (which the winner holds for a month) is given to the person who crosses the finish line first. This means that anybody can win (provided they are a Club member) not just the fastest runner.

Relay Race:

Every year in June the Club organises a relay race in Windsor Great Park. Teams consists of 6 people and many other running clubs participate in this event. All profits from the relay go to charity.

MABAC League:

Runnymede Runners belong to the MABAC League together with 10 other running clubs from Surrey and is competing against these clubs throughout the year. On a monthly basis the clubs in the MABAC League alternately organises a cross-country race. These races are all about 5 miles long, however, a 2½ mile run for juniors, joggers and walkers are also arranged. Most of these races take place on a Sunday morning.

Cranleigh 15/21:

In March each year, the MABAC League organises an open event in Cranleigh, Surrey. You decide the distance yourself – either 15 miles or 21 miles. Many people use this as a training run for the London Marathon. Runnymede Runners are also expected to attend a drink station.

Surrey Slog Half Marathon:

This half marathon is a cross-country event, which takes place in July in the Holmbury St. Mary area of the North Downs in Surrey. The course is very scenic, but quite hilly. Afterwards we usually picnic in the grounds of the local school.

Surrey Country League:

Runnymede Runners belong to the Surrey  Cross-Country League. 4 cross-country events are arranged throughout the winter months. The races take place on Saturday afternoons. This is a good opportunity to experience traditional cross country running. We are in one of the lower divisions, and runners of all abilities are welcome. As usual, we find a nearby pub to relive the highlights of the race and generally socialise.

Marshalling:

If running in the events does not appeal to you, the Club actively helps and supports other events in the local area, i.e. provide marshals for the London Marathon, the Cranleigh 15/21 race and the Surrey Slog half marathon. Help is also given to the Staines 10K race.

Equipment:

A range of T-shirts, sweatshirts, vests etc. in club colours with the Runnymede Runners’ logo is available to purchase from the Kit Secretary.
